New Lawmaking System It has been two years since we launched our website. The Kansas Legislature is now in the midst of building a new legislative computer system. The system will include "Lawmaking," a bill drafting system which is scheduled to be ready for use during the 2011 regular legislative session. With it, bill drafting should be easier and we should complete our editing and publication work earlier. Designing and building the new system has required a large time commitment from our IT staff, Val Carter and Chad Champney. They deserve kudos for their hard work and long hours! Our current mainframe drafting system has been with us since the 1970's. While it is cumbersome in comparison to today's systems, it is fantastic that it has served us so well over the past 35± years. An important reason for the continuing success of that system is the expert support of Bud Champney, who retired last year but has contracted with us to help us through the conversion to the new system. While we look forward to implementation of our new system, I'm sure Bud looks forward to true retirement so he can fish to his heart's content! |
